From your Chief Pandemic Officer with Love!

Dear Students,

The subject of H1N1 influenza is often in the media. The Executive Board
of Freie Universität Berlin has put together an "Influenza Pandemic"
planning group to implement the recommendations of the World Health
Organisation (WHO) and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). Today I am
writing to you to draw your attention to the key information about H1N1
influenza that is available on the central web pages of Freie
Universität Berlin.

* Up-to-date information on H1N1 influenza, the work of the planning
group, and if applicable, its effects on classes, can now be found in
Freie Universität Berlin's online magazine, campus.leben:
http://www.fu-berlin.de/campusleben/
See NEUE GRIPPE under Links to Further Information (Weitere
Informationsangebote). (Most of the information is in German.)

* For questions regarding H1N1 influenza, please contact the relevant
"Departmental Pandemic Officers" in your department, see:
http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/neue_grippe/media/dezentrale_pandemiebeauftragte.pdf

In this context and with active health protection in mind, we would ask
that you report (by phone or e-mail) any flu-like symptoms to the
Studies Office in your relevant department or to the Departmental
Pandemic Officer.

You can find more information on H1N1 influenza and how to protect
yourself from infection in an information leaflet available as a pdf
file in numerous languages. Go to the campus.leben/Neue Grippe webpage:

http://www.fu-berlin.de/sites/neue_grippe/infos/

Under the heading "Informationsbroschüren zum Herunterladen", see
"Hinweise und Verhaltenstipps zur Neuen Grippe in 11 verschiedenen
Sprachen".

Sincerely,

Frank Rosendahl
Chief Pandemic Officer of Freie Universität Berlin

Thomas Demand.
EXHIBITION AT NEUE NATIONALGALERIE, BERLINSEPT 18 2009 - JAN 17 2010
Thomas Demand’s art transcends the generic constraints of the photographic medium. The artist (born in Munich in 1962) often culls his subjects from reports in the mass media, using them as the starting point to create expansive sculptures out of paper and cardboard which transpose the two-dimensional original into three-dimensional form. The artist then photographs these spatial (re)constructions made out of paper with a large format camera, before ultimately destroying them. Direct human activity, finer details and figures captured on film are not transferred from the original photographs into the life-size sculptures. What remains are phantom images of ‘crime scenes’ of missing events which often appear just as familiar to us as they are impalpable.

Time - O’Spada (Suck Shaft remix)

britticisms:

This re-mix was made as part of a remix content the band held in early June. Pretty good, but nothing will ever compare to the original. According to my iTunes, I’ve listened to the song 86 times since I first received a copy June 2nd. That seems about right. Not gonna lie, that was one of the most surprising, enjoyable e-mails I’ve ever received. Like, people rarely, rarely send me music. I think I’ve received a recommendation less than 5 times. More often than not, I just find any music I post here because I have an unhealthy interest in anything “contemporary” and a wealth of free time at work. God, it’s so good. It’s unfair. It’s like, who would have thought that a Swedish band could interpret 80s freestyle in 2009 and make such a brilliant, brilliant track? I love them hardcore.

Time - O’Spada

britticisms:

Hello.

I think you should listen to this song if:

  1. You like songs that are dance-y.
  2. You like songs that are catchy.
  3. You’ve been waiting to clap along to a song and not be “that guy” that always claps.
  4. You like electro funk.
  5. You like songs that are produced by Swedes. (And what is going on in Sweden? Why is no one investigating the fact that they’ve pretty much dominated pop music for the past decade? What are they putting in the water over there? Is every Swedish citizen required to produce a good melody?)
  6. You like things that sound like they could have been ripped from the 80s but in the best possible way.

“Time” by O’Spada

Life feels more enjoyable because this song is in it.
